Volunteer Central: Submission Policy

Thank you for contributing your work (.Material.) to Wolfram|Alpha Volunteer Central ("the Site"). To avoid any misunderstandings, please read this policy governing all Material submitted to Wolfram Alpha, LLC ("Wolfram") via the Site, email, or otherwise.

By submitting Material, you represent that:

  • You are submitting Material strictly on a volunteer basis. There will be no monetary compensation or royalties tied to submissions. To the extent that a prize or reward may be offered, you understand that Wolfram reserves the right to withhold or deny the prize or reward due to ineligibility or for any other reason at Wolfram's discretion;
  • None of your submitted Material is taken from a proprietary database or compilation without a) a legal exception (e.g. Fair Use), or b) the express written permission of the owner(s) of the database or compilation, with such permission extending to your submission to the Site and any subsequent publication or use by Wolfram;
  • None of the Material is taken from a confidential or non-public source;
  • In addition to provisions 2 and 3 above, you affirm that you have the absolute right to use, submit, and license the Material for the purposes described herein;
  • To the best of your knowledge, the data submitted is accurate; and
  • You are of legal age, or have the permission of a parent, legal guardian, or teacher to use the Site and submit Material.

Upon submission, your Material shall be subject to an in-depth approval process, after which Wolfram may choose to incorporate your Material into its proprietary Site and related websites. To the extent that your submission is used in the Site and related websites, your submission will become the property of Wolfram. To the extent that ownership is not transferable, you grant Wolfram a royalty-free, perpetual, worldwide, irrevocable, sublicensable, non-exclusive license to use, reproduce, adapt, modify, publish, translate, publicly present, publicly display, and distribute your submission (including any portion or derivative thereof) in any form and by any means for any purpose whatsoever. You understand and acknowledge that the Material you submit shall become part of a database, and that Wolfram will own the compilation copyright in that database.

Submitting Material via the Site is not a guarantee that your Material will be incorporated into Wolfram|Alpha, now or in the future. Wolfram reserves the right to discard, reject, change, alter, modify, or translate any submission at any time at its sole discretion. Material not immediately used may nevertheless be maintained indefinitely for possible future use in Wolfram's library of unpublished submissions.

You agree to indemnify and hold Wolfram harmless from and against any loss, liability, claim, or damage sustained by Wolfram as a result of a claim or allegation that your submission: (i) infringes any patent, copyright, trade secret, trademark, or other intellectual property right of any third party; (ii) violates the personal rights of any third party; or (iii) is illegal or offensive.

Neither Wolfram nor any third party using your submission in accordance with this policy will be obligated to pay you any royalties or other compensation for use of your submission.
